Dr. Aparna Hegde Founder, Chairperson and Managing trustee #ARMMAN

Dr. Aparna Hegde
Urogynecologist, Researcher, Social entrepreneur, Founder and Managing Trustee, ARMMAN

During her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Sion hospital in Mumbai, Dr. Aparna Hegde witnessed how pervasive systemic problems in the provision of health care led to maternal and child deaths that were preventable. Unable to accept the status quo, she founded ARMMAN (Advancing Reduction in Mortality and Morbidity of Mothers, Children and Neonates;, a non-profit dedicated to designing cost-effective solutions at scale for complex health care problems. She conceptualized the four projects of ARMMAN; mMitra (with customized malnutrition and HIV-AIDS programs), HERO (Helpline for Emergency Response Operations), Arogya Sakhi home-based care and the Mother and Child High-Risk Factor Tracking system. ARMMAN’s programs make innovative use of technology to create cost-effective programs that find the right balance between the depth of impact and scale and have already impacted more than a million lives.

Dr. Hegde is also India’s leading urogynecologist and pelvic floor reconstructive surgeon with a master’s degree from Stanford University and IUGA (International Urogynecological Association) International Fellowship in Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery from Cleveland Clinic Florida.
