In India, limited access to preventive care information and a low understanding of complications and risk factors among pregnant women and mothers, are some of the major factors that contribute to delays in seeking care. Even when women do access care in a timely manner, the quality of information and guidance they receive is often inadequate. The continuum of care—spanning early identification of risk factors, appropriate referrals, and effective treatment—is weak due to insufficient training, high workloads, and limited knowledge among health workers on quality reproductive, maternal, and child healthcare. This leads to unnecessary or delayed referrals, resulting in overcrowded tertiary care facilities and higher rates of maternal and child mortality and morbidity.
What We Do
We employ a comprehensive 360-degree perspective to reduce maternal and child mortality and morbidity. This includes empowering women with direct access to vital health information through mobile phones (mHealth) and strengthening the health system by training health workers across all levels. Our “tech plus touch” approach, combines the power of technology with the reach and expertise of government and partner NGO health worker networks.
Our interventions align with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 2 – Zero Hunger (end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture by 2030)
- SDG 3 – Good Health and Wellbeing (ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all, at all ages) which includes healthy pregnancies, healthy childhood, and universal vaccine coverage
- SDG 5 – Gender Equality (achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls) which includes universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights.
- SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals (recognizing the importance of multi-stakeholder partnerships to share knowledge, expertise, technology, and financial resources, and promoting effective public, private, and civil society collaborations to advance the SDGs.)
