MOBILE ACADEMY
MOBILE ACADEMY is the largest mobile-based training programme for health workers in the world, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India.
The Reproductive Maternal Neonatal and Child Health training course is aimed at enhancing the knowledge of Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers with focus on life-saving preventive health behaviours, to improve the quality of their interactions with new and expectant mothers and their families. Mobile Academy is accessible by a simple mobile phone handset by dialling a short code, all free of cost.

The course comprises modules that train ASHAs to provide preventive care and referrals for mothers and children from pregnancy through the child’s first two years. The programme consists of 11 chapters, each divided into 4 lessons, with a quiz after every lesson.
An ASHA worker can pause the four-hour course at any time, and upon redialing, it will resume from where she left off. After completing all the chapters and quizzes, she receives her final score. If she scores 50% or higher, she qualifies for a certificate of recognition from the MoHFW.

Mobile Academy 2.0
The augmented version of Mobile Academy (2.0) will incorporate multimedia content (including videos, digital posters/images, audios, quizzes and notifications), delivered via multiple delivery channels such as WhatsApp, in addition to Interactive Voice Response (IVR) to enrich the quality and effectiveness of learning for the health workers.
The content will also address equity-based challenges such as patriarchal norms affecting uptake of Family Planning, that the ASHAs have to navigate while working in communities. Additionally, the programme will provide a support system to assist ASHAs through dedicated supervisors, a call centre, and digital channels for continuous guidance and support.

The programme will expand to all States and Union Territories across India by the year 2025-26.
Mobile Academy is being implemented in 17 States and Union Territories.

SYSTEM STRENGTHENING
We are also working with the public health system to integrate Kilkari and Mobile Academy within the system, fostering accountability and ownership across all health care levels, conducting regular reviews of Kilkari metrics across all system levels while establishing teams in every state for comprehensive system strengthening.
We are actively collaborating with the public health system to enhance data quality by building the capacity of health workers and strengthening protocols and processes for accurate data entry. Improving the quality and accuracy of data in the Government portal has a cascading effect resulting in women receiving benefits of more Government schemes.
