ARMMAN

Our Chatbot for Health Workers Featured at the Google.org Accelerator Event

Our founder, Dr. Aparna Hegde, took the stage to present a powerful pitch at the Google.org Demo Day. ARMMAN is the only organization from India selected among 20 global nonprofits to join the Google.org Accelerator: Generative AI programme. At the event, Dr. Hegde highlighted the crucial role of health workers such as Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) in managing high-risk pregnancies, leading to reduction in maternal mortality.

With support from Google.org, we built a WhatsApp-based, generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered learning companion in the form of a chatbot, in partnership with ARTPARK to support the ANMs. This multilingual, multimodal co-pilot offers real-time, clinically accurate guidance in Hindi, Marathi and Telugu, via voice or text, to enable the ANMs manage and refer high-risk pregnancies. Notable achievements include:

  • Answered 25,000+ clinical queries from nearly 2,000 ANMs
  • Reduced response time from 30 seconds to 10 seconds, boosting usage and trust
  • Supported real-life cases, from anaemia in allergic patients to managing early pregnancy complications

We are scaling the chatbot to 10,000 ANMs in the coming months, expanding multilingual capabilities, and continuing to build an AI-powered support system for maternal and childcare in India.
