AROGYA SAKHI

The AROGYA SAKHI Home-Based Antenatal and Infancy Care programme trains and equips frontline health workers (ASHAs) in underserved rural and tribal areas to become leaders who provide home-based healthcare.

The Arogya Sakhis make home visits and support families, particularly in remote areas, where pregnant women, mothers and children, struggle to access healthcare. The Arogya Sakhis are trained to:
  • perform diagnostic tests,
  • screen for high-risk factors, and
  • ensure early referrals during the antenatal and infancy periods.

The Arogya Sakhis are provided with a medical kit to perform basic diagnostic tests and a tablet encoded with an application-based decision support algorithm that guides them through the process. They enter the results from the diagnostic tests in the application on their tablets. The app alerts them in case of high-risk conditions and prompts them on the next steps according to the severity of the condition.

The tablet also contains:

  • training videos for self-learning,
  • multimedia content that supports the Arogya Sakhi at the time of counselling
